Improved Upper Bounds on $a'(G\Box H)$

چکیده
The acyclic edge colouring problem is extensively studied in graph theory. The corner-stone of this field is a conjecture of Alon et. al.[1] that a′(G) ≤ ∆(G) + 2. In that and subsequent work, a′(G) is typically bounded in terms of ∆(G). Motivated by this we introduce a term gap(G) defined as gap(G) = a′(G) − ∆(G). Alon’s conjecture can be rephrased as gap(G) ≤ 2 for all graphs G. In [5] it was shown that a′(G H) ≤ a′(G) + a′(H), under some assumptions. Based on Alon’s conjecture, we conjecture that a′(G H) ≤ a′(G) + ∆(H) under the same assumptions, resulting in a strengthening. The results of [1] validate our conjecture for the class of graphs it considers. We prove our conjecture for a significant subclass of sub-cubic graphs and state some generic conditions under which our conjecture can be proved. We suggest how our technique can be potentially applied by future researchers to expand the class of graphs for which our conjecture holds. Our results improve the understanding of the relationship between Cartesian Product and acyclic chromatic index. keywords: Acyclic edge colouring·Acyclic chromatic index·Cartesian Product ·Gap

Upper bounds on the solutions to n = p+m^2
ardy and Littlewood conjectured that every large integer $n$ that is not a square is the sum of a prime and a square. They believed that the number $mathcal{R}(n)$ of such representations for $n = p+m^2$ is asymptotically given by begin{equation*} mathcal{R}(n) sim frac{sqrt{n}}{log n}prod_{p=3}^{infty}left(1-frac{1}{p-1}left(frac{n}{p}right)right), end{equation*} where $p$ is a prime, $m$ is a...
متن کاملUpper and lower bounds for numerical radii of block shifts
For an n-by-n complex matrix A in a block form with the (possibly) nonzero blocks only on the diagonal above the main one, we consider two other matrices whose nonzero entries are along the diagonal above the main one and consist of the norms or minimum moduli of the diagonal blocks of A. In this paper, we obtain two inequalities relating the numeical radii of these matrices and also determine ...
متن کاملUpper bounds for noetherian dimension of all injective modules with Krull dimension
In this paper we give an upper bound for Noetherian dimension of all injective modules with Krull dimension on arbitrary rings. In particular, we also give an upper bound for Noetherian dimension of all Artinian modules on Noetherian duo rings.
متن کاملOn the Exponent of Triple Tensor Product of p-Groups
The non-abelian tensor product of groups which has its origins in algebraic K-theory as well as inhomotopy theory, was introduced by Brown and Loday in 1987. Group theoretical aspects of non-abelian tensor products have been studied extensively. In particular, some studies focused on the relationship between the exponent of a group and exponent of its tensor square. On the other hand, com...
متن کاملAn Upper Bound on the First Zagreb Index in Trees
In this paper we give sharp upper bounds on the Zagreb indices and characterize all trees achieving equality in these bounds. Also, we give lower bound on first Zagreb coindex of trees.

In a sequence of random variables, record values are observations that exceed or fall below the current extreme value. Now consider a sequence of pairwise random variables {(Xi,Yi), i>=1}, when the experimenter is interested in studying just thesequence of records of the first component, the second component associated with a record value of the first one is termed the concomitant of that ...
